Employment/Labor Law
Our employment law department arises from the longtime, hands-on, practical experience of Michael G. Miller and Scott A. Lewis, both of whom became lawyers after careers in law enforcement where they were very active in their labor associations. They have years of experience on that practical level, as well as since becoming attorneys, from negotiating Memoranda of Understanding, handling disciplinary/administrative hearings/arbitrations and follow-up/related litigation, Labor Commissioner hearings, and de novo court follow-up in their wake, as well as representing management in private businesses for drafting employee manuals/handbooks/policies and representing them in civil litigation. The firm also represents the California Teachers Association and the Santa Rosa Fire Fighters Local 1401.
Litigation involving employment law has also included representing both employees and employers/management in discrimination and harassment matters, as well as wage and hourly matters, including complex class actions. Disability fights are also something the firm handles, with Anne D'Arcy predominantly handling such matters, considering her registered nursing background.
The office works closely with employers to minimize liability by providing training, developing policies and investigating internal complaints.
